Muay Thai

Muay Thai is a stand-up combat sport, where fighters are not allowed to take the fight to the ground. It is fast-paced and combines both boxing and kicking. In Thailand, it is known as the art of eight limbs, referring to the eight points of contact that are used to strike the opponent. In addition to punches and kicks, Muay Thai utilizes elbows and knees as additional weapons for attacking.

Muay Thai classes at Elevate will build speed, flexibility and endurance and focus on the techniques that work best with MMA. Due to the type of striking that Muay Thai implements, it works fast twitch muscle fibers in the legs, shoulders, back and core, as well as working endurance through high volume repetition. You’ll build strength, speed and explosive power if you give it your all in Muay Thai class. Simply put, it’s one of the best total body workouts you can get!

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a style of submission grappling that utilizes leverage and skill to submit an opponent using chokes and locks. A highly skilled Jiu Jitsu practitioner can submit an opponent much larger and stronger than they are. In traditional Jiu Jitsu grappling competitions there are no strikes allowed, but at Elevate we train to anticipate real life self defense situations, where the threat of strikes may be present, and focus on the best positions to stay in control, whether in a fight on the street or in the cage.

Wrestling is a form of grappling, relying heavily on speed and strength to control an opponent. There are no submissions in wrestling and competitive wrestling matches are won by points or by pinning an opponent’s shoulders to the ground. Wrestling is however, potentially, the most under appreciated tool that can be utilized in MMA. It is an extremely dominant style of ground control and position, and when used properly, can help a fighter stay in control offensively. Think of wrestling as the bridge between stand-up and ground disciplines such as Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu.

Boxing utilizes punches only, but focuses heavily on hand speed, head movement and footwork. A good boxer can end a fight with one punch and is a very dangerous foe at close range. Good boxing is an essential skill needed to compete in MMA, due to its effectiveness “in the pocket.”

Boxing is incorporated into most combinations in MMA. Whether it’s being used to set up a take down, strike when breaking from a clinch or being used as a primary offensive combination, boxing is an essential skill set needed to complete an effective attack sequence. We can teach you how to learn the “sweet science” of boxing and adapt it to blend perfectly with the other styles in MMA.

Kid’s Program

Our kids MMA program at Elevate is a great way to teach kids how to learn self defense, get in shape and build self confidence. We teach our kids the same winning style and techniques we teach our competitive fighters, so you can be sure they will be building a foundation in MMA that will grow with them.

We believe all people, including children, should have some sort of training in self defense. The confidence it builds, many times, is enough to deter a possible assailant or bully from acting in the first place. Whether it’s in a parking lot or on the playground, having a game plan ready to execute without hesitation is often the key to getting out of a bad situation.
